Monthly ACHOF News Summary and Previews just posted - I've just published the latest ACHOF monthly news summary, covering all of the news, interviews, etc., that took place during the past month (August, 2017), as well as several previews of items of interest taking place in September.

This month’s summary comes at a time when parts of the country are experiencing a climate-based tragedy the likes never seen before in this country, and so while of course I want you to read and enjoy what I’ve presented here today, my real hope is that you’ll all do whatever you can to both help the victims in TX and LA and continue to press your local/state/federal officials to stop denying the obvious and work together to come up with long-term plans for better zoning, water abatement, land management and emergency preparedness. Maybe if you could picture your record collections under six feet of water, it’d put things in a different perspective.
A bit over 5000 words introducing you to the latest news about the artists, musical acts, designers, photographers, galleries, curators and publishers who support and promote the works produced by record art designers from all over the world. Exhibitions include shows built around the talents of rock impresario Bill Graham, the psychedelic photography of Karl Ferris, Chris Cuffaro’s Martini Ranch imagery, Mick Rock’s early Bowie photos, Malcolm Garrett’s fascinating graphics for The Buzzcocks and the past nominees/winners of the Best Art Vinyl Awards (coming soon, along with this year’s nominees and inductees for the Album Cover Hall of Fame).
There are profiles and interviews with and/or about artists including Sir Peter Blake, photographers Brad Elterman and Ron Pownall, cartoonist William Stout and designer Michael Cina, one of several album cover creators who’ll be on hand at the upcoming AIGA Design Conference. I’ve included details about new books and prints from rock historian Dr. Jennifer Otter Bickerdike (with some included bonus content from famed designer Peter Saville), designer Klaus Voorman and David Bowie photographers Markus Klinko and Gerald Fearnley, as well as a plethora of interesting articles on topics ranging from “Best/Worst of” lists (including some feedback from one of the creators found one these lists) and little-known facts about Hipgnosis album art to the critical and fan backlash regarding Taylor Swift’s new record cover art. All this, and much, much more.
Don’t let me forget - This month I also received the exciting news that the ALEX Awards show (named for the Godfather of album packaging and design, the late Alex Steinweiss) – a packaging industry awards show that’s been on hiatus for a number of years now – is being resurrected and will become part of a new show/symposium dedicated to all things vinyl record called “Making Vinyl” set for early November (Nov. 6-7) at the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel in Detroit, MI. Album cover creators will have the chance to submit examples of their recent work to a panel of esteemed judges (including well-respected designers and other music industry notables such as Spencer Drate, Judith Salavetz, Stefan Bucher, Gail Marowitz, Sean Mosher Smith, Sylvia Reed and Julian Alexander) for their review beginning September 1st and I'll be posting more information very soon, so keep your eyes peeled...Online submission forms can be found at http://makingvinyl.com/alex-awards/
Please share this info with everyone you know who might be a fan of great album cover art and, of course, your comments and feedback are quite welcome.
