If you're in the Portland, OR area this month, I'd like to personally invite you (and your friends and loved ones) to join us as we present an exhibition of iconic album cover art, illustration and photography at the Cravedog Loft Gallery in downtown Portland.
Working with the NW Film Center as they present their annual "Reel Music" film festival, we have organized a showing of over 50 fine art prints of album cover imagery from the 1960's thru present day, with works by "the masters" of album cover artwork.
Some examples of what is on display include:
Storm Thorgerson - Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Karl Ferris - Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland
Ernie Cefalu's - Jesus Christ Superstar
Richard E. Aaron's - Peter Frampton - Frampton Comes Alive!
Ingrid Haenke - Aerosmith - Toys in the Attic
George Hardie - Led Zeppelin I
Jim McCrary - Carole King - Tapestry
Terry Pastor - David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust...
Jamie Reid - Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks...
Paul Whitehead - Genesis - Nursery Cryme
Tony Wright - Traffic - Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys
and many, many others, featuring musical acts from all rock and pop genres (Dylan, Run-DMC, The Ramones, Green Day, Black Sabbath, etc.).
We're also featuring the work of two PDX-based artists - Mike King (Elliott Smith, Ben Harper, etc.) and Justin Hampton (Danger Mouse - The Grey Album) and will also be showing some very rare works by R. Crumb, Al Hirschfeld and Mick Haggerty.
If you're a fan of classic rock album cover art, this is a show you don't want to miss!
The exhibition premiered on January 14th as the after-party for Portland-based video director Lance Bangs' film (which was shown as part of the NW Film Center's "Reel Music" festival), with refreshments provided by our friends at MacTarnahan's Brewing Co.
The Cravedog Loft Gallery is located at 412 NW Couch, #203, Portland, OR 97209 For more information, please call the gallery director Lizzy at 503.347.7926
This exhibition is being curated by Mike Goldstein of Portland's own RockPoP Gallery and runs through January 29th. Take a look at the photos of this exhibition's opening parties 1/6 and 1/14/11 (look for the link called "PDX Exhibitions" in our blog's photo gallery)...
